So, I just finished rendering a videoclip in 3ds max as an image sequence, and I also rendered a depth map to go with it so I could get some nice DOF effects in it.
I just reinstalled my PC, but it turns out that now the Lens Blur filter in After Effects CS5 doesn't work. I mean, it blurs and everything, but only if there is no layer set in the Depth Map Layer option.
I've tried precomposing both image sequences, render them as .mov and then re import them, and I've also tried using a precomposed ramp. None of it works.
I make sure that I check the "Move all attributes" when making a new comp,
I also thing I tried was just using a plaing grey solid. That seems to partially work. but it seems my Lens Blur can only figure it out when there is only a single luminance in the depth map layer. And even then it acts strange, as it doesn't fill the screen, but only blurs a tiny rectangle in the middle of the comp.

Here's a screenshot with the solid as depth map

And here's one with the actual depth map (I've masked out some of the render so you can see the depth map)

Lastly, to make sure I wasn't doing anything wrong, I tried opening a project file from someone else with my version of After Effects where the lens blur worked. But it didn't work when I opened it on my computer.

I've considered buying a 3rd party plugin, but I haven't been able to find anything out there yet that matches the Lens blur filter.

Please guys, any help? I'm kind of desperate, as I constantly use Lens blur for my renders :-(.

That's bizarre. Have you disabled OpenGL, or tried resetting your preferences?

Do you mean the OpenGL setting in the Render Queue? Or is there a OpenGL setting that toggles in the preview window too?
That reminded my of trying to render the video and check if it's just the preview that is strange, but that doesn't work either. No matter if OpenGL is enabled or not.

There's also an Open GL setting in Preferences, and you should disable it for rendering.

Found it now, but it's enabled. Don't know what else to try. Any other ideas? Anybody?
