Animating wave forms in After Effects using a live audio feed ?

It's simple to set up the spectrum/waveform effects in Adobe AE to animate to an audio track imported into AE. But I would like to know if there is anyway to make it possible that my spectrum/waveform animates to audio from an external source ? Maybe with using other hardware/software ?

The end result would be a finished spectrum/waveform project created and customized using Adobe AE, that animates when fed live audio from any source.

I've seen a couple of ways to manage that on Flash, but I have no experience with Flash at all. Would appreciate your thoughts here.

Amr,

It sounds like a cool idea, but I don't believe it's possible. AE renders out pixels and once they're set, they're set.

I would love to be wrong, though...

Sorry, you're not wrong. AE can only work with audio footage, not with real-time audio signals.

If you want to try something completely different, you could (in theory) use Apple's Quartz Composer to make a custom iTunes visualiser. This of course assumes that you have an Apple Mac and knowledge of (or are willing to give it a go) programming Quartz compositions...and plenty of time! Then you could possibly drive the visualiser with a live audio input source. Maybe. Just an idea - I've never tried it myself!

Some details can be found here...

With WinAmp you can have it run a visualisation based off of live audio input. I'm a fan of the Milkdrop visualizer, but there are TONS of great ones you can download for WinAmp - many of them very, very customizable without programming experience.
