Sync Flare with 3D null object
on Dec 6, 2010 at 11:28:03 pm

Hi guys, Im using AE and I have a null object (where my camera look at), and I want to add a Flare to that point. What I did is to add a new solid, applied a flare, and using screen mode to blend the layer, it transfers really good to the comp, but! I cannot sync the flare position (2D) with the null object...
is there a simple way to do it?
I thougt about using some tracking but i dont know if it will work fine.
Any advices will be really appreciated!

You can tie them together with an expression.

Name your null object "Flare_Source", make sure 3D is enabled for it.

Now after you apply the flare effect to a new layer, Add this expression to the flare center attribute:

thisComp.layer("Flare_Source").toComp([0,0,0]);

Hi Andy, thanks for the reply!
Im trying to tie both objects but I got an error message:
"Unterminated string constrant Expression disabled."
The software disables the link... is it right the expression or maybe Im doing something wrong...

Seems to be working for me and im not Java savey enough to determine what the error is referring to.

Here is an after effects project file where I linked a null to the flare using the expression. It's created in CS4 that should open in CS4 or or CS5.
