I’m an experienced AE user but for some reason I can’t get a wall of lights to be turned on/off based on a luma map.

This tutorial by QubaHQ is what i'm going for, but once i modify it to HD and more lights the "light map" acts very oddly. It seems the light map isn’t scaled properly and is repeated many times.

30 lights wide x 7 lights tall
1920×1080 Comp size

I've posted a stripped down project file for insight:

If anyone can help at all i’d greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!
josh

I just had the chance to download and review your project. The problem is subtle!

Your lights are arranged sequentially from the top left in columns, but QubaHQ's lights are arranged from the top left in rows. In other words, your Light 1 is underneath Light 0, but it should be to the right of it. Essentially, all your lights are scrambled and the relationship of their layer indexs to the sample position in the luma map has been broken.

You can either change the expressions to work down first, then right, or re-arrange the layer order of your lights to work right first, then down (like a typewriter).

Good luck!
