Hey guys,

I imported an apple pro rez QT in after effects. The editor on the other end swears that it's 10 bit. I just don't see the full gamma range in after effects on my PC. Looks like a regular 8 bit file.

Changed my project settings from 8 bit to float.

Is the PC decoder for Apple Pro Res restricted to 8bit or something ?

Thanks

Benjamin

How 'bout trying 16- bit in AE?

Are you seeing gamma weirdness rather than an 8-bit / 10-bit visual difference?

There's almost zero visually-perceptible difference between 10-bit and 8-bit; it would be most apparent is portions of the picture where there a color ramp, such as a very soft shadow on a colored wall.

You'd have to strain to see the 2-bit difference even on a REALLY good monitor -- think five figures to get a good one. Got one?

If the codec of your footage says ProRes, it's 10-bit. Quit worrying.

I believe Pro-Res in any flavor is always 10-bit.

ProRes 4444 supports 12-bit video.
