I am working with a very large image in my comp in CS5, the dimensions are 10208 x 14032 1200 dpi. My renders are taking a bit longer than I would like so I was wondering would it speed things up for me if I split the image up into 4 or 16 even pieces in Photoshop and then bring them back in to my comp?

[Phil Brough] "...the dimensions are 10208 x 14032 1200 dpi..."

It has a lot to do with the amount of memory you have. If you've got 32GB, I wouldn't worry about it very much. If you've got 8GB, cutting up the image would probably help.

As a Photoshop person, you should be aware of this: AE is completely ignorant of dpi; it's a totally irrelevant concept. AE only knows about pixels.

Here's an example: I have two files. One is 10 inches wide at 300 dpi. One is 30 inches wide at 100 dpi. When imported into AE, they are precisely the same size -- 3000 pixels wide.
