Same/linked keyframes for a layer style across multiple layers
on Aug 10, 2010 at 1:53:19 pm

Hey guys,

I've been trolling around the internet for an answer, but nothing seems to get it right. I got about 50 layer to which I assigned an Outer Glow effect. Now I want to change the opacity of this effect uniformly across all layers following a certain succesion of keyframes.
But whenever I alt-click on the stopwatch and link the opacity to the keyframes, it only works for the one layer (though I have them all selected).
Whenever I try to 'Copy Expression Only' and paste to all layers, the opacity changes over the entire layer, and I only want it to change for the Outer Glow.

What can I do?

Thank in advance,
Marty

I just tried it, and Copy Expression Only works for me in your scenario. You have to have the property with the expression selected when you do the copy though - that's the only thing I can think of. After you do the copy, paste it into a text editor. It should look like this:

Adobe After Effects 8.0 Keyframe Data

Layer Styles Outer Glow Opacity
Expression Data
thisComp.layer("Layer 1").layerStyle.outerGlow.opacity
End of Expression Data

End of Keyframe Data

But do I paste it for 50 separate layers then? That seems kind of redundant.

Weirdly, it does seem to work OK now.
I don't know what I did wrong before, since the expression contains the information that the opcity is for Outer Glow.

Thanks!
