Disable Undo when CTI changes
on Aug 4, 2010 at 10:37:04 pm

As we all know after changing Current Time Indicator in After Effects, this change is interpreted as a command, as an Undo State. Premiere Pro doesn't have this behavior and also any other compositing software too (afaik).

This is very inconvenient and annoying.
For example, we made some change in a layer's effect and want to see the effect of the change at another times in the Timeline, then we decide to return to previous state and After Effects undoes first the CTI changes even if we would like to still stay at that time in composition (like in Premiere Pro). Is there some hidden way or even hack to disable this behavior? It's too many years have gone and this issue is still on my list.
Thank You

Hmmmmm.... it doesn't do that to me. Are you typing in a specific time? I think if you just drag the timeline cursor to a certain time, you should be okay.

Sorry, it is a behavior of older versions, in CS5 finally it doesn't adds an Undo State. But after performing an undo it still moves the CTI cursor to the previous time.

For example, in AECS5 we made some change in a layer's effect and want to see the effect of the change at another times in the Timeline, then we decide to return to previous state, we perform Undo and After Effects moves the CTI cursor even if we would like to still stay at that last time in composition (like in Premiere Pro). So, is there some hidden way or even hack to disable this behavior?

Thank You

Here's a workaround -- use the timeline markers. Set the markers (Shift-number key on main keyboard, not number pad) for the two spots, make the change, then simply hit the number keys to go to the two different points on the timeline.

Piece o' cake.

Thanks, that's really the only possible workaround, but it would be better if there would be an option to turn off this behavior
Thanks anyway
