I'd like to animate in real time to a wave file with the puppet tool but am not getting any audio when I hit the command key and move the pin. I have CS5 10 and the audio in the comp. is a wave file. I also reduced preview size to a quarter.

Sorry, AE doesn't work like that, and it never has.

The best you can do is to create a small solid and highlight it. Then preview the audio and hit the multiply (asterisk) key on the numeric keypad, crating markers.

Alternately, you can scrub the audio. Hit the caps lock key to prevent the screen from updating and command-drag (Mac) the timeline cursor back & forth. You can mark a layer as above, use the shift-number (on main keyboard) to create a marker in the comp, or just modify the property you're animating.
