Ripple Cut in After Effects
on Jul 27, 2010 at 8:15:11 am

Hi there,

I have a lot of clips to remove from the timeline and was wondering if anyone knows how to perform a Ripple Cut in After Effects as you can in Final cut??.

Or if there are any scripts out there that would Ripple Cut??.

This would save me a great deal of time.

Thanks, Martyn

See "Remove part of the duration of a layer".

Found with this search.

Thanks for the response Todd.

I have tried the solutions from the link you have sent but did not work. I thought the Extract Work Area. The gap is closed by ripple deletion would be the solution but unfortunately it left a gap.

I'm using CS4 if that helps.

Thanks Martyn.

I just tried Edit > Extract Work Area, and it left no gap.

If this isn't working for you, please provide an exact, step-by-step account of what you're doing and what's happening. Screenshots would help.

Hi Todd,

thanks for sticking with me on this.

1 I select the layer I wish to remove.

2 Edit > Extract Work Area

3 Pull hair out as I'm left with a gap.

Thanks, Martyn

Ah. I see your problem. Read the instructions again. They instruct you to set a work area. The work area defines the duration (time span) that will be removed and then closed by ripple deletion.
