CS5: CTI doesn't move when caps lock on.

With After Effects CS4 you could hit the Caps Lock key to preview audio in a comp with a ram preview without letting any video render. The CTI used to move along while you did this. I was able to get visual feedback as to where I needed to add my markers to keep things in sync with voiceovers.

I'm making my spots for the first time in CS5 and to my horror the CTI isn't moving. Is something wrong here, or is this supposed to be an improvement???

Anyone know?

try hitting the decimal in the numbers pad to do an audio preview. (i don't have cs5, but this is how i've always done audio previews, if it doesn't work, then there really is something wrong with your cs5).

it's all in the timing...

glad i could help.

Hmm ... maybe this is actually a feature: with Caps Lock on, nothing updates, even the UI. There have been times where a sort of "kill switch" was needed, if I recall.

Todd might be able to confirm this.

Hey Kevin, give me your number. I'll call you every five minutes to wake you up. ;-)

[Kevin Camp] "...luckily the coffee is free..."

...and since you're in the Pacific Northwest, I'd imaging the coffee is both tasty and strong, too. Good luck on the graveyard shift!

Kevin works down the road from me, so I can confirm that he has plenty of good coffee nearby.

Regarding what updates with the Caps Lock on: Caps Lock prevents the rendering of any video content for preview in the viewer panels. It shouldn't prevent the rendering of audio content.

I just tried RAM preview with CS5 on Windows 7 and Vista, and the audio played fine with Caps Lock on. The CTI moved as normal. If you're experiencing unexpected behavior, file a bug.

That said (as others have said) you have other means for previewing audio only. See "Preview video and audio".

I just tried it again and I'm home right now. Same thing happened. Pressing 0 with caps lock on does play the audio, but the CTI doesn't move. I will file a bug report. Maybe it's a mac thing.
I'll use the decimal key from now on.
