Evenly spacing multiple objects in 3d space?...
on Jun 28, 2010 at 10:22:07 pm

I am placing different cuts of a video into my timeline and animating them so it's kind of similar to a length of film from a projector running by - right now I'm manually placing each on in the place I want it, but is there a way to bring in a bunch of clips at the same time and then evenly space them along a plane?

Aza, have you tried using Align? Open the align window

Window/Align

select the layers

in the align window select the alignment icon that corresponds to the type of layer distribution you need.

I haven't used the align function much but on occasion I've used a tiny bit of expression to distribute layers in z space.
in the position I'd write something along the linens of..:

i=index; /* which takes the number of the layer and in case of it being the fourth layer it would be index-3 in order to make the number i=1..*/
valZ=i*300; //each layer will be multiples of 300px deeper into z space
[value[0],value[1], valZ]

If you want to space it vertically, just do it for Y and use the height of the images you want to stack. "Copy expression only" and paste to all layers involved..
Also add sliders to make it easier to adjust things later if need be..

i=index;
valZ=i*300;
[value[0],value[1], valZ]
