Mocha tracking

Can someone please give me some advise !!!

I've made some robot arms in 3D.. they are holding monitor screens..

wobbling them about..with some camera moves as well

I'm having problems exporting the camera and positional / rotation data, as they are linked to some ik bones..

So I thought i would render out a track pass.. which was just a white grid with some dots on it..

however mocha is really struggling to track it.. I would have thought it would be a doddle..

So.. is the contrast too much.. a white grid on a black back ground..

has anyone tried this before.. is there a better colour combination to use..

anyhelp would be greatly appreciated

kind regards

Alex

If your move is 3d then you need a 3d tracker- Syntheyes on Boujou

Thanks for the reply tutor Ted..

But Mocha is a planar tracker.. So it should be able to track a grid...

That's kinda what it is designed for surely ???

If you want to replicate the camera data in AE and the camera has 3d moves, then you can't use mocha. To track just the screen- render your animation with basic shading and track with Mocha. The grid may make it more confusing- Mocha is looking for more info that's not there.

mocha's planar tracker responds better to patterns than minimal textures such as a hi-con grid. If you filled your image with a texture it will track better.

To get a flawless screen replacement in mocha, usually all you need to do is track the edges of the monitor and subtract the insert. See this tut for reference:
