What happened and why? We just upgraded from CS3 to CS5 and I see adobe went ahead and changed the preset from 864 to 872 for D1 widescreen. What is the reason for this? Also, the widescreen pixel ration went from 1.2 to 1.21. This does not jive with other applications that we use. What's the deal?

[Ryan Butterworth] "We just upgraded from CS3 to CS5..."

Beginning with AE 9, Adobe changed the standard comp preset resolutions and pixel aspect ratios at the request of camera manufacturers (and perhaps others) to better reflect REALITY in the way cameras behave.

There is a way to alter the AE preferences file to get AE 10 to work with the old settings. You'll find it on the Pro Video Coalition web site. I'm sorry, but I don't have a link. I'm pretty sure Chris Meyer wrote the brief article on how to do it.

This was recently discussed here in this thread.

Specifically, I'd refer you to this post by Todd Kopriva from Adobe about why they made the change, and how to go back to the "old, wrong numbers."
