Gamma shift on external monitor
on May 4, 2010 at 11:35:01 am

Hi!
I'm experiencing a slight gamma shift on my preview monitor.
I'm working with some ProRes clips, plus some graphic elements. The monitor preview for the footage is correct in FCP, as well as the comp window in AE and the canvas in FCP... it's just the monitor in AE that gets shifted. Finally, if I render the animation out, it predictably plays OK when imported in FCP.
I've had some QuickTime gamma issues in the past, but not in After Effects till now.

Any hints would be much appreciated.
Thanks a lot!
Alex.

Some more information on your system would be helpful. What versions of the OS, Quicktime, FCP, and AE are you running?

Have you seen Todd Kopriva's blog post on ProRes 422?

Thanks for your input, Walter.
I'm running OS 10.6.3; Qt X; FCP 7 & AE CS4
I'll go trough Todd's post and report back.

Cheers!
Alex

I'm sorry, I mis-read your initial post the first time around. Do you have the latest drivers for your capture card? If AJA, have you tried the AJA plugin for AE?

From the Preview on an external video monitor page in AE's help system: "Whether or not color management is enabled for the project, After Effects does not manage the color of previews on an external video monitor. The colors sent to the external video monitor are in the working color space for the project."

You may have additional settings to adjust the RGB > YUV conversion on the output card in your AJA or Blackmagic control panel.
