3d ball animation??

does anyone have a suggestion on how to create a 3d ball(like a racquetball ball) that I can animate in After Effects?

You've got CC Sphere and Zax Invigorator to do the tricks nicely. For a more elaborate rundown, do a COW searh on this - we've done this many times.

You can make a circular solid or shape layer and set it to always face camera (layer>transform>auto-orient), so it appears spherical. Add a radial ramp for shading.
