Yeah, if your goal is something like -- oh, let's make something up -- animating a bouncing ball on footage from FCP, it would be good to be albe to read the time code: you can replace it easily in the edit timeline.
The Problem: you can ALSO have 60 other piece of footage appearing in the same frame in the same AE comp... which piece of time code do you choose?
