Maybe it's just me, but I can't find a TC reader in AE CS4. Anybody know of one to purchase?

There's no really elegant way to read time code in AE. But there is this:

Thanks, Dave. Not quite the easy solution I'm looking for. Looks like exporting window burns out of FCP and then into AE for further compositing.

Yeah, if your goal is something like -- oh, let's make something up -- animating a bouncing ball on footage from FCP, it would be good to be albe to read the time code: you can replace it easily in the edit timeline.

The Problem: you can ALSO have 60 other piece of footage appearing in the same frame in the same AE comp... which piece of time code do you choose?

Yup. This is why it needs to be a filter on the desired clip. Alas. It means spending time exporting & generating additional media for this stage of the project. :(
