Hey guys,

I am trying to follow a tutorial to which the built in light in after effects is animated in 3d space. However in the tutorial the light when given to position key frames has a guide showing the path, and it looks like you can manipulate the path, mine however shows no path. What is wrong I have the toggle mask and shape path selected.

To show the motion path, just click on the position property. AE defaults to showing something like 15 seconds of it. If you don't see it the way you want, you can change how much or how little AE shows you in Preferences.

Dave is correct, if you change the Preference settings for Display you can set the number of keyframes visible on a motion path.

Two other things may be an issue:

1) The type of light. Only point and spotlights have position that can be keyframed.

2) You must have a minimum of 2 keyframes to make the motion path visible.

Be sure that in the View Options for your comp that Motion Paths is not unchecked.
