Easy way to track artwork to wiggly textanimation?
on Jan 15, 2010 at 10:28:21 am

Hi everybody,
I've been turning to CC:s forum for help some time now but this is my first post, so... be gentle. :)
Ok, here we go: I'm working on a project with the built-in text animation in AE. I´m having wiggly characters changing scale randomly and skews back and forth. All animation is based around the basic textanimation so it's easy to change the words any time.

Now to my big problem: I need the text to be filled with "dots" (or artwork) that tracks on the characters as they change scale and so on.
(Please see image to better understand what i'm babbling about).

Is there ANY way to do this without tracking every character by hand?

Please, please answer if you know anything
Thanks,

You'd probably want to use Mocha to do this, but you need AE9. You'll end up using Mocha to track every letter. However, it IS better than tracking each letter by hand. If you know how to replicate your text effect in a 3D application, you may find it's easier to do there.
