wake behind surfers

Hello Everyone,

I'm trying to create a wake behind lots of different surboarders that follows them as they glide across the ocean. The ocean is a flat surface with a ramp (the client doesn't want a realistic ocean). Is it better to do this with lines and a mask, or is there a better way?

Thanks!

H

Since the look is stylized, your idea is very good. Very good indeed. If you're handy in Illustrator, you can whomp together a few wakes-- white water, bubbles, etc. -- and use them a few times.

When I saw the post title, I cringed. "Oh, no, she wants photorealism," which is impossible in AE. Imagine my relief as I read it.

WaveWorld.
It's completely awesome for this stuff but it's not like you just pop it open and apply it.
You will use WaveWorld to create a grayscale map and pull that into Colorama or some other tint filter.
You will create one Waveworld output for each surfer and then use blend modes to combine them all into a precomp that will be passed on to Colorama.
