Creating a 3d world.
Is there a way to stop light from passing through a layer? I'd like one side of my layer lit, the other side unlit. Do lights shine infinitely? Passing through all layers?

Thanks if anyone can shed some light on lighting in a 3d after effects world...

Mike

My best advice: play with the software! Learn how layers interact with lights! Heck, you don't even need footage, just some solids.

Just like Dave says, play around - that's the best way to find out.

A few tips though that might be hard to find on your own though:

Turning on the adjustment layer switch on a light will make that light only affect the layers underneath it.

Lights can also have a negative value - meaning they'll project darkness!

In the material options you can switch the shadows to ON, OFF and ONLY by clicking on it.
