Is there anyway keycommand to break a sentence into words???

There's the old standby: Cut, then Paste.

Furthermore, one the word is in a new text layer, I don't know of any way to keep a word in its relative position in that sentence without using some fancy expression that I can't wrap my head around.

You might try duplicating the text layer, then playing with the opacity of the individual characters that make up the unwanted words. That you can do.

Just a thought: Depending on what exactly you're trying to accomplish, you may want to use text animators and set the Based On property to Words.

Here's an example that shows how to restrict animation to one word in a phrase.
