Is there a way of breaking & moving elements of an image forward or backward in z space determined by the images value? Say for example dark values moving back in z space while light values move forward?

Maybe using Shatter?

Card Dance can also do that, perhaps even better than Shatter.

How would you use it to push in z space? I see how to flip parts but...

I think there's a tutorial on Card Dance either here on the COW or on Videocopilot that describes that very situation: how to array pieces of an image, split up in Card Dance, in z-space based on luminance.

Andrew Kramer uses expression controls to drive his text pieces in z space. I'm hoping to find the technique that uses my image's value range as a map to drive the z space push. I used to have a VHS tape of Brian Moffet explaining this technique in version 5 but don't have it anymore. : (
No tute's on card dance here so I'll keep digging the QA archive. Wish there was a freeze time control for the clock : )
