have a small doubt -

could someone explain to me a step by step on how to do the following

i have to do a funky documentary but instead of names coming on a person like normal ( they fade in and then fade out )

i like to have a line connected to the person with the name

meaning when the person is shown a their name and status will appear with a line connected to the person --- how would i do something like that on after effects

please help

the beam effect will connect two points with a line. you would just point one endpoint at the person and the other to the name.

if you needed to have one endpoint track the person, then you would need to track a point on the footage and apply the track to a null, then you could use a pretty simple expression to link the null's position to the endpoint in the beam effect.

an expression like this would allow for some repositioning of the endpoint in case the tracking point wasn't exactly where you wanted the line to point:

target = thisComp.layer("Null 1"); // change this layer to your null
target.transform.position + value

you could do a similar expression to link the other point to a line of text if needed.
