Ok, so I have to create a short animation of various paper "fliers" flying on to screen and "sticking", then flying off screen. The papers need to roll and curve and bend all kinds of ways in the process.

The bezier warp tool would be perfect, but it shows a mirrored image of the flier on the back side of it. I can't have that, I need it blank, or be able to choose whats on the back side.

Only two plugins I've found are able to do this.
1) Cycore FX HD 1.6.5 - PAGE PEEL effect (
2) Zaxwerks 3D Layer Warp (

Both of these cost hundreds of dollars, I'd rather not spend that.
Anyone have any ideas? Thanks a lot!

(Keep in mind most page turn plugins only bend an image within its own demensions.)

I have to do this and used a tutorial found in the Cow. Here is a link that gives a brief summary of the technique:

This thread may be helpful and has a link to an example:

I would add to the things mentioned there that Bezier Warp, Displacement Map and Turbulent Displace are very useful native AE plugins when trying to pull off this effect.

Here is another example using the BCC plugin mentioned below:

As you can see, the Boris Continuum Complete page turn allows a separate layer or solid color for the backside image, but it's completely understandable that third-party plugins aren't an option.

A far more time consuming way to get the same effect is to duplicate the layer with the page turn, replace the duplicate's media with a blank file with the same exact dimensions, offset the two slightly in 3D space and use motion blur on both to hide imperfections.

Thanks a lot! I didn't come across those posts in my searches.

This effect is turning out to me more complex then I anticipated.

Brandon -
I'm sure you don't want to hear this, but the best way to do it is with a 3D package which contains a physics system. It will actually allow you to create wind, setup the density and flexibility of the paper, bend/crumple it, and make it fly away, all the while looking pretty realistic.

I had to do this a couple of years ago, and fortunately had 3D Studio Max as part of my arsenal. I started out trying to accomplish it in both Combustion and AE, but the effect was just not up to snuff, since it had to be composited with live-action footage. The suggestions above sound doable, if time-consuming (amazingly enough, doing it in Max turned out to be quick - set up wind, set up gravity, stack the paper, setup a few keyframes for varying the wind direction and velocity, and good to go).

Good luck with the project. I just wanted to give you an alternative that would give you a better looking result.

In a way, thats exactly what I wanted to hear. I've been meaning to learn and acquire some 3D software for some time now... I think now is the time.

I'll hit up this site and Lynda for some tutorials.

Thanks a lot!
