Hey you guys! I've seen a video a while back and it was an advert for some diamond event. The video was mostly image based animation but through the animation, they had an effect where it seemed like u were looking through one side of the diamond. I have been trying to create it forever and cant seem to be able to. I can't find that video anywhere online but I have created a photoshop image of the sort of effect.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Do you think it's a filter or just masks?

the image link is below

Thanks for looking :)

Actually that should be rather easy.

First off - if you dont have a black and white picture, throw the tint effect on it to make it black and white. If it doesn't matter (or its already B&W) then skip this step.

Next duplicate the layer.

Then select the upper of the two layers, and Scale it down a little (you'll have to play with this till it looks the right size).

Then draw a diamond (or whatever) shaped mask around the scaled layer.

And finally move it to where it looks like it should be (also will have to play with it).

At this point you're done, UNLESS!

1. you can feather the mask or leave it sharp edged.

2. You *COULD* put a glow effect on it, switch it to alpha and overlay on top, this will give the diamond shard a back glow.

These could make the shot look better..
Or ruin it completely hehehe

Stuff to play around with. I hope this helps!

Show us the final if it works out. :)

You're quite welcome!

There's three reasons I love lurking around this site..

1. You can *ALWAYS* learn something new. No matter what level you're at.

2. It's an amazing feeling when what little bits of knowledge you've learned or discovered benefit someone else. It's also awesome to see that knowledge put to use.

Good luck with this and I hope it turns out great!
