How do I open a Window's AEP file v.9 on a Mac with AE v.9?

Thanks

Um...... the way you open any AE project file created on a Mac?

Is this a trick question, or do you have a specific reason for asking?

No not a freaky Friday gotcha question. But if I think of one I will post it:)

Oh is it that simple? I assumed it would be incompatible.

I am a "cross platform AEP file opening ignoramus".

Nope. Pretty simple. But make sure you've got all your footage with the project file, and make sure your Mac can read it. For example, Macs straight out of the box can't handle Windows Media.

Not that you should be using Windows Media as footage in an AE project in the first place, I'm just sayin'....

Oh, and fonts can be problemmatic, too; don't expect to see novelty fonts from free font sites show up, even if they are on your Mac.

Don't forget plugins. If the original project used third-party plug-in effects, Windows versions of those plugins need to be present on the Windows box.

Sometimes Mac & Windows versions of a plugin are sold together, sometimes separately. It depends on the plugin.

Depending on what you are actually working on within AE, I would also suggest you ask for a compression of the last version they are sending for own reference. Sometimes this helps if effects don't properly transfer from one platform to another.

Another BIG deal is fonts. Again, not sure if you're dealing with them, but a lot of times you will have to substitute them, even if the same font is installed on your machine. A quirk between different operating systems (and sometimes within the same OS environment) is that each machine will sometimes "see" the same fonts slightly differently, especially when dealing with fonts that have multiple family options. You'll get the font error messages, but if you have a reference clip you can easily choose the proper substitute and just double-check everything lines up the way it should.
