hour:minute:second counter in AE

Hello
I want to animate a counter that reads like this 00:00:00 which is hours:minutes:seconds

So far the only way I know how to animate numbers is the NUMBERS effect. Still I have no idea how to animate my whole thing with it.

As in: If seconds is 69 the MINUTE counter needs to jump to 01 and the second counter must jump to 09.

How do I do this?

Also I just want to enter one value on one key into my counter say "00:05:30" and then I want AE to animate from say "00:00:00" to "00:05:30".

Any idea?
Thanks a million

If you set the type in the drop down menu to time doesn't that do what you want?

Could you put the hours on a different layer and animate that separately? More hassle I know than doing it on one layer but it should work.

Yeah you could use an expression to link them I suppose. Pick whip the hour to the minutes and divide by 60 (/60) I think.

This really isn't brain surgery.

Add the Numbers effect to a solid. Within the effect, select the time code display. Mask off the part you don't need: the frames count. You can animate the value using keyframes, or let the effect automatically increase in value from the first frame of the comp.

Done.

Haha this is so obvious. I can't believe I didn't think of this myself. Thanks a million for this great help! :)

This sadly doesn't work as nicely as I hoped it would. If I pick TIME CODE it will run automatically by itself from the start and I can't tell it "BE 00:00:00:00" at any point in time. Sure I seem to be able to animate it with Value/Offset... but I am not able to set it to zero at any point.

Use keyframes for the offset value; although I haven't used the effect for a while, I believe offset value is a keyframeable property
