calculating after effects tracking points

I want to know if there is a way to calculate tracking data that is going off screen based on the tracking data while it is on screen.

In other words.

I have a pan of a pool. I have a few tracking points but some are on camera at different times. The pan is smooth and therefore i want to calculate off camera movements of the tracker points based on the data that i have of when it's on screen.

Any ideas?

I have copied and pasted some of the key frames, and this works kind of well. But it doesn't take into account the exponential change,

Thanks

In addition to what Dave posted you can check out the podcast that Eran Stern recently did on this very topic:

Sorry if this was posted more than once - I just posted this but it was hanging when trying to post - doesn't look like it went through and I didn't see a message saying I was moderated or anything..)

So that's a nice idea, however my tracking will not be linear, it's a curve so is there anyway to use more than just the last two points as the data to extrapolite.?
