Falling Leaves Effect

Hi all. I'm trying to simulate falling leaves using Trapcode Particular and not getting the result that I want. Instead of the more natural, wispy look, I'm getting a pretty uniform motion with a few variations here and there. Is this the best Particular could do for this type of effect? I'll keep playing with the settings. Hope someone could point me in the right direction. Thanks.

Try this.

Make multiple layers of leaves.
Make your leave tumble animation in a seperate
composition 200x200 Pixels. Do a few different
style leaves and tumbles. Fewer particles will give a nice
random look. lower the velocity and adjust your wind.
You should try at least 3 different layers.

If your objective is to use the Trapcode plugin, this won't be what you're looking for, but if your objective is to make the falling leaves, check out Ayato's tutorial http://www.ayatoweb.com/ae_tips_e/ae19_e.html#.

He manages to do some amazing falling petals just using AE 5.5 STANDARD....

Clever guy, this Ayato....

Clever in deed...

You could use Particle Illusion too :)

But I think Ayato's tutorial should be enough.

I animated a real leaf rotating 360 degrees against a blue sky with my still camera and later keyed it out. I have it as an loop at 720x486, Avid Avi.

I use it all the time for different things. You're welcome to have it if you email me. It would make a nice particle in Particular. The clip is 2.2 megs.

Thank you all for the advice. Wow, I didn't know that there were so many ways in simulating that effect. I came from a print background and had just gotten started on time-based media.

Bill, thank you for the offer, and I will take you up on that. I'll email you after I post this message. This is such a great resource site. Thank you all again!
