One animating pattern across a 3d cube.

Lets say i want paint to splat on the top of and drip down the sides of a cube.

Instinct would suggest I start with a precomposed splat video, mask that into 9 squares and then duplicate the layer with each masked square as a separate layer and rotate them appropriately. BUT I would like the splat to be seamless from wall to wall and cutting the one square video into 9 squares (lets assume in t a cross pattern) cuts out big portions of the original. I feel like the best solution would involve some warping and unwarping.

Thanks!

It might be worth exploring the idea of projecting the video of the splat using a light and a video layer with a shadow.

It's kinda hard to demonstrate as there appears something wrong with the image links on this tutorial by Rick Gerard, but I think this would work:

YES! I have since discovered 3D projection and am absolutely in love it's opening up SO many new possibilities including projection based motion tracking which is a mindblower.

For anyone else new to 3D projection here's what I've learned:

The basic idea of projection used to make a 2D image 3D

Other apps that do the 2D to 3D version
https://aescripts.com/buena-depth-cue/
way complicated version with projection onto OBJ files
https://aescripts.com/projection-3d/

How to use it to stabilize
https://www.rocketstock.com/blog/when-warp-stabilizer-fails-create-a-projec...

Using two camera setup to stabilize then using the second camera and preomposing and then sticking that back into the 3D scene so you can do whatever you want to them (i.e morph/warp/mask etc)
