Using Effects + Face Tracker To Artificailly Age Actors
on Aug 23, 2019 at 8:15:42 am

Hi people, this is my first time posting here i think.

I'm currently making a film for a project at school. The story has somewhat of a dual narrative involving a large time jump. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of how to create an aging effect in After Effects? My attempts were using the face tracker and the cartoon effect to create a sort of sobel on the lines of the face, but this turned out not looking great, and was wondering if there was a better way that I was just missing.

Oh wow. This is definitely a challenge. Boardwalk Empire used head tracking, photoshop and Maya to add facial scars to a character. In theory, face tracker would allow you to add lines to a face, but it will be a lot of work.

How about a practical approach instead? Take a look at this ERB2 making of video about how they aged NicePeter to look at Jacques Cousteau. Some simple lines drawn with a make up pencil:

So, after posting my reply the other day, I stumbled across this video from Red Giant, about using their new product, KingPin Tracker.

Obvisouly there's a cost associated with this and I still think you'd be better off using practical make-up, but for a complete answer, I thought I should post this video too.
