Merging masks together for an audio spectrum
on Oct 5, 2017 at 3:00:16 pm

For a video, I wanted to make an audio spectrum that was placed on-top of letters. I've already made all the masks (With the pen tool) but because there are so many curves and straight lines, I constantly create separate lines and masks. They're all in the same 'folder' but when I want to set the path for the audio spectrum, multiple options come up (Each one of them only covering bits of the letters. Please help!

Precompose those layers with the masks. The precomp should have opacity in the shape of the desired mask, and it should be transparent at the edges of your intended single mask. Now go Layer>Auto Trace. Use the appropriate settings to make a mask based on the Alpha Channel. You'll get a single mask on a comp-sized solid.

There's your one mask, which you can convert to a shape if you need to do so.
