Render Time-HD-3d layers - Speed up?
on Nov 19, 2016 at 1:29:03 am

hi
thanks for reading...

I downloaded this ae template. (first time to used a template)
https://www.enchanted.media/downloads/advent-calendar-slideshow-after-effec...

I need to speed up my render time if possible.

I am just adding 1024 x 576 7s clips for each window that pops open (the content)

here is the first window rendered - 6 seconds of the animation took 18 min to render (about 10 sec per frame)
https://vimeo.com/192207451

There are no 3D objects, just cameras and lighting from AE's own tools.

Here are my AE settings. Do you think I need to change them for faster render time?
As you see, I have mutli process off. Seems to crash to program

CS5.5 After Effects

the activity monitor

Thanks so much for thinking on this
Appreciate!

Warmly,
Hope

Hi

The 1920 HD comp is ntsc at 29fps but i need PAL at 25fps. After I render the whole thing in 29, then just re-render in 25 Pal?
Would that be best?

In the end it is compressed to mpeg2 then compressed again on the web channel when they upload to their 'box' that streams.

Here are a few memory readings from the iMac's Activity Monitor during the 12 frame render: Does it seem right?

Was a bit faster w multi-processing turned on. I had it turned off before as was crashing my work in AE, but in rendering 1 second, it did not crash.

Took about 1min. 45s for the 12 frames to render - about 8s per frame w multi-processing on and about 10 sec wo it.

What do you think?
Warmly,
Hope

Hi, it's the guy from Cedar Rapids. Your render times could be just fine. Hard to tell with what we know. I think they're OK.

It's the frame rate conversion that concerns me. I'd do the whole thing at 29.97..... I REPEAT, 29.97... those fractions are important... and nest it it in a 25 fps comp. Both frame rates are comfy with 1920x1080.

Hi Dave.....the guy from Cedar Rapids

Very nice to hear from you. Thank you for writing.
Hope all is well there in beautiful Iowa. Calm weather.

Makes me feel alot better. Ok, thanks.

Yes, ok, will render at the 29.97 - that IS what the comp actually is....you are right. Then after will put in a PAL 25 fps comp and re-render for final output to the Web Serving Box, that the video dept uses.

Otherwise the NTSC is fine for youtube and fb, of course.

Thanks heaps, always fun to hear from you.
Warmly,
Hope

[Hope Holmesby] "here is the first window rendered - 6 seconds of the animation took 18 min to render (about 10 sec per frame)"

It looks like that template has lighting/shadows, motion blur, and camera depth of field. These things all make the final render look a lot nicer, but they take time to compute.

Since you're experimenting with multiprocessing, I'd suggest more conservative settings. You've got 16 GB of total RAM; leave 4-6 GB of that free for other applications. Allocate a minimum of 3 or 4 GB per background CPU; maybe more. The goal is the faster render, and using two background CPUs efficiently can be better than using four background PCUs inefficiently.

Hi Walter...fun to hear from you too, again,

Thank you for helping.
I will study what you say and cant wait to do.

This will be exciting.

Thank you!

Hope all is well with the 'widescreen/multi-screen display, and high-impact presentations' world.

Warmly,
Hope

hi
thanks to these comments, realized that if :

-in timeline - turn on 'draft 3d' in tool area of timeline
- rendered in 'draft' and then click that name 'draft' in the render settings in the render queue and for
- effects: all off.

I rendered that thing in 5 min. OMG

It is going to take 8 hrs otherwise. so now at least we can show the clients the content.

Really good to know. In the past I went into the comp and turned off switches, etc, now so much easier to shut off in the Render Settings.

Thanks for all the info.

Well, I am rendering that project now...

It is taking 10hr so far for less than 2 minutes of animation

still has 3 hrs to go

Ram used of 16GB: 15.99GB per the Activity Monitor. Per the reading at the bottom of AE, it is only 17% of the ram. is being used.
Why would that be? Nothing else was running or open

Does anyone have any ideas?
Warmly,
Hope

p.s.
15-16s per frame to render
will stop the render and change the settings and see what happens.
