The example you provided is not just a simple effect of transition between photographs.
There is a lot of planning and production that went into this ad.
Each "photograph" is actually a series of photographs taken from the same spot with a zoom lens in small increments (from wide to narrow) or possibly with a camera on a dolly that is moved on a track keeping the same location of the vanishing point. All the shots are then composited with a morph transition to simulate the travel/zoom through one shot. Each shot is carefully staged to provide a transition point for the next shot and the zoom/travel happens at constant speed.

Sorry, I pasted the wrong link above. Unless you know italian, of course.

But that video only shows how you zoom between pictures from Google Earth. They have the very thing you're looking for: identical vantage points and variable zoom of the same motif. If you want the effect to be as perfect and fluent as the video you pasted, then yes: you will have to shoot the pictures with the end result in mind as described above. Consider the perspective lines of the photographs in the video. They all align. This is the key to beautiful zoom endless zoom effects.

[Mikael Björnson] "But that video only shows how you zoom between pictures from Google Earth. "

probably better to learn from the original tutorial: http://www.videocopilot.net/tutorials/earth_zoom/

You can do a somewhat limited version of that by utilizing 3D Vanishing Point.
