Having Trouble with Mocha Tracking
on Jul 11, 2016 at 9:31:14 pm

I'm new to mocha but after tracking a simple movement and trying to apply it in AE I'm not having any luck inside AE. In Mocha it seems to be fine, but when I try to apply it to my AE footage, the same footage, the tracking data moves all over the place.

I made a quick video capture of what I am doing https://vimeo.com/174273504/565bec5cd7

Any idea what I am doing wrong if anything at all?

The problem is you're trying to paste corner pin data to a null object.

If you just need the motion of the null, you can use the Transform data export.

If you need to use the corner pin to insert a warped layer on the arm, you should apply it to that layer instead.

I tried that this time -- used corner pin data applying it to a solid layer and still get the same results as if the track is off.

Am I missing something?

Ok I figured out what the issue was -- user error. Your suggestion was correct.

Thanks!

I have success when copying the corner pin data to a layer that has an image, but when I try to paste it to a composition that is the same size as my comp then it shrinks my comp down to just the same size as the surface size used when tracking inside of mocha. Anyone know why that is?

The corner pin will always be the same size as the surface, but it is relative to the dimensions of the layer.
If your precomp is the same dimensions as the current comp, applying the exporting corner pin data will make it match the surface in mocha.

If you don't want this and have set up your precomp to match the scene first, you will need to align your surface in mocha.
To do this, go to mocha and choose the "Align surface" button, which is the icon under the layer controls that looks like a square with arrows pointing out of the corners.

Once the surface is aligned to the dimensions of the footage, it will move relative to the tracking data as usual. Export your corner pin again and you should be fine.

Martin you are a genius. Thank you. That one simple step I did not know about solved the issue.
