Hi there, experienced shooter, relatively new to AE.

I've shot some ace footage in a skate park. I took these clips into AE and duplicated them, then experimented with the Blend Modes, creating very nice colouring. I used Bezier Distortion on top layer, which created a really interesting colouring effect, especially when the corners fold over, as this created three 'layers' of colour, constantly evolving. The Bezier/corner thing however feels really obvious and shit to me.

I'd like to achieve similarly interesting 3D and evolving colouring, using a more original and interesting effect. Am I even making sense?!

I'll post a samaple of what I'd done.

Any tips would be sincerely appreciated.

Cheers,

David.

I guess I am confused, are you looking for just interesting coloring techniques or something to look similar to what you currently have?

Well, the Bezier has created a mask essentially, but I think it's shit. I'd like to create interesting shaped masks, that evolve

Cheers for reply

The best advice is this: play around with AE. See what it can do.

Normally, these things are planned out, with specific effects in mind, INCLUDING what to do with colors & shapes of images. Art directors get involved. Directors get involved. Effects people get involved. It all happens before any of the footage is shot. They KNOW what they want before they do it, and they KNOW how to do it.

On the other hand, you don't really have a plan: you have some nice footage and you're just foolin' around and experimentin'.

So fool around and experiment! You'll learn stuff about AE that way!
