Hi everyone,

Its been years now i try to do something without any succes, at some point i have to look for some help, its probably something peoples already tried to do or been digging, hopefully with better results than me :)
So what i 'd like to do is to find a way to apply effects via a layer map.
For example: i apply a directional blur to a layer or comp, and i'd like that its strength to be based on the luminance on another layer (layermap) so that if i use for example a simple gradient black to white from left to right, that blur would have go from my slider values (X) on the left to zero, so in the middle the stregth would be X/2.

I asked on another forum already but the only reply i had was to use a mask which is exactly what i want to avoid cause the only thing it does it doing is that (still in my example) in the middle of my image i'd have a fade between the original image and the same image with the blur. Im sorry for my way to explain things, it may not be clear.

Lets say i'd like to do exactly what does the lensblut or displacementMap effect but with any other effect, like the directional blur or gaussian blur, any way to achieve that ?!

Thanks a lot,

nicolas

Take a look at some of the Compound Effects that After Effects includes:

Thanks a lot Joseph,
it was as simple as that, its exactly what i was looking for ... for years that's ridiculous ^^

And actually it works aswell as a directional blur using the "Camera Lens blur" and playing with the aspect ratio and rotation :)

I just need now to find out how to move, transform, rotate the comp containing those Compound effect, whatever i do it stay as the layermap original position, bu i'll find the trick.

THANKS !

You're welcome Nicolas - some of what you're looking for may involve just creating a pre-comp prior to the effect. I'm not absolutely sure.
