shatter effects: any way to get debris atop another layer?

Hello, and i am using custom shatter layers, and my question is two fold, one, when causing something to shatter, is there any way to get smaller particles to appear above another layer? in this case atop the characters layer?

My second question, is when using rays on the white lines, I am getting an issue were the rays remain stationary even tho the pieces are moving around, is there any way to get the white solid underneath to generate rays through the cracks?

Thanks a bunch for any help you can provide!

Your best bet may not be using Shatter in this instance if you want the shattered layer to stick. You may want to look at Trapcode Particular to do that.

And while we're on the subject of Trapcode, you may want to look at Shine to generate the rays you seek.
