If you split the layer as suggested, the effect will go away abruptly, like a cut. If that works for you, great.
If you want something more gradual, you have a couple of options. You can reduce the effect to nothing by animating it with keyframes. Or you can duplicate the layer, remove the effect from the top layer, then animate its opacity from 0 to 100. It'll like the effect dissolved out.
