I have noticed: if I select several layers in one comp and copy/paste them into another, the layer order is reversed.. Is there a way around this? It really screws up your track mattes.. :(

Select your top layer, hold down shift and select the bottom layer, cntl+c, cntl+v will maintain the order. AE pastes in order of how you selected the layers. In a few quick tests if you hit Cntl+A, it works top to bottom also.

Aha, you are correct..

For whatever reason, I guess I was always selecting bottom up...!

Thanks, that saves me lots of time re-ordering layers..! :)

from After Effects Help:

"When you copy (or cut) and paste layers, the layers are pasted so that they appear from top to bottom in the Timeline panel in the same order in which they were selected before the copy (or cut) operation. You can Ctrl-click (Windows) or Command-click (Mac OS) layers to select them in any arbitrary order, cut them, and then immediately paste them to reorder the layers in the order in which they were selected."
