What is the difference between using a hold keyframe and a "half linear-half hold" keyframe? I mean, i sometimes get that cubic keyframe icon; sometimes get that half linear-half cubic icon. What is it that determines which one i will get?

You can ease into the half linear-half hold keyframe.

I LOVE hold keyframes. If you know what you want, they are a godsend. You can ease into them, ease out of them, cancel out positional drift... they're great. I for one consider Adobe's implementation of the hold keyframe as one of the handiest things they have done EVER.
Could you guess that I would recommend that you very intimately learn the ins and outs of hold keyframes?
