I recently recorded a projection course that I took, my problem is that I have a lot of background sound that needs to be removed. The question I have is, is it easier to try to separate the background from the vocals of the instructor or, being that the person teaching the course has a totally different sound to, separate his voice then dump the background.

The only software I have is adobe, how would you tackle this type of situation?

Tks Gary

This sounds like an audio recording problem and not an After Effects problem. The mic apparently wasn't close enough to the sound source to overcome the background.

If this is the case, I'm sorry to report that there isn't a way to remove the background sound without also doing damage to the sound that you want to keep.

So how do they get nice audio from actors talking over busy downtown traffic? Put a mic on the the actors or use dialogue replacement.

100% but, my sit is that I bought a JVC GC-HD620BU and the mic is in the head also, there is no where for an external mic. That being the case and the fact that it is only for me and a couple of mates, I am using soundbooth hey, it sounds better, no gold medals but better. tks for responding mate

Glad it worked out well enough for you. Sometimes you don't need it to be absolutely perfect.
