Aspect Ratio issues for an animation! PAL to NTSC
on May 30, 2012 at 8:37:20 am

Hi I'm in NZ, and am trying to create a H.264 widescreen NTSC file (for a possible USA festival screening) and just hoping someone can help me?

My film is an short animation (PAL.1024x576) and whilst the ratio looks fine on the project file - and the PAL QT exports are fine on my computer (as are pngs) the NTSC ( exports look that normal?

Any advice on the best export settings for a PAL to NTSC/H.26 file would be much appreciated!
Here's my specs:

The AfterEffects project file (CS3) settings are:

PAL D1/DV Widescreen Square Pixel
(16x9) 1024x576
Pixel Aspect ratio: Square Pixels (Frame aspect ratio 16:9)
Frame rate: 25 fps (for animation)
resolution: Full (1024, 2.2 MB per 8bpc frame)

So I need to export it out as a H.264/ NTSC widescreen file so the settings I tried are:

Preset size settings: NTSC 720 x 480 (16x9)

Compression: H.264
Quality: Best
Frame rate: 29.97
Frame reordering: yes
Encoding mode: multi-pass
Dimensions: 720x480 (853x480)

I also tried using the preserve aspect ratio/letterbox tabs but it still came out squashed? It's for a digitalbeta/ video transfer.
(not youtube).

any help much appreciated!!
