I'm trying to create a script that will duplicate my _template comp, replace footage in the comp with another item in my movs folder. Then repeat this process until all movs have their own comps .

my file structure:

so far I have...

var proj = app.project;
proj.item(1).item(2).name = proj.item(1).item(1).layer(3).name;

I've realized replaceSource is used for c:// drive destinations.
What other method could I use?

I think you will get a better response on the expressions forum, some of the guys of over there are familiar with scripting.

Thanks John,

I'll post in expressions.

There's a script called "compsfromspreadsheet" on that does that. You just fill in the filenames and text, etc. on the spreadsheet and it replaces everything and creates new comps from your template comp. I've used it a few times and it works great, but you have to be careful about spelling, capitalization, etc. because it will stall on any errors.
