Speeding up preview / scrubbing frames - very current system
on Mar 24, 2012 at 3:24:10 am

Hello, I just built a new system and have a few questions.

I have After Effects CS5 64-bit, and am experiencing lag scrubbing frames and previewing clips. I'm looking for any tips to speed things up, to make previewing and editing a bit faster. I am somewhat new to this and could use some pointers. Thanks.

Here's my system:
Intel Core i7-3930k
Asus P9X79 Pro
EVGA GeForce GTX 570
G Skill Ripjaws Z Series 16gb
Crucial M4 256gb SSD (os drive)
(2) Seagate 3TB SATA III 7200 6.0 Gb/s drives

to make previewing and editing a bit faster.

AE isnt an editor, so I hope you really aren't editing much in AE, cause it will just frustrate you. As far as previewing goes, the only realtime preview in AE is the RAM preview and the duration of that is determined by the amount of RAM you have and the size of the clip(1920x1080, 720x486). To perform a RAM p-preview, select your preview area with "B"(beginning), "N"(end) and press zero on the number keypad. You will see a green line move across the comp as AE caches your frames and it will play when it's done.
