Hello! I am a new to this forum and to after effects, so if my questions sound stupid it's probably because they really are.

I tried to make a text animation in cs5.5 and I wanted all the good stuff: per-character animation in 3d space, lights, shadows. Some text in a book starts animating. The background is just a still with an open book.

The issue: in order to make the text look real, I have to make some color gradients over it, some blur also some bending and perspective skewing. When I turn on per character 3d, the shadows disappear. I started the proces with first creating lights and text per 3d and after that I tried to add some effects. Every effect I added to the text layer made the shadow disappear(it did not matter if it was a color effect or a distort effect).

Why do my shadows disappear when I add effects?

How can I have a bended(mapped) text, with color gradients and shadows animate(per-character) in 3d space?
Thank you!
