I have created a text layer and started typing. All the fonts are inflated (extra fat) and the letters are crowding. I can spread the letters out of course but I'm not getting the crisp thin lines.

The first pic is from AE with 2 different fonts that look exactly the same at font size 30. The view display is set at 100%

The second pic is from MS word also with font size 30.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

You have two things fattening up your text.
One is that there is a thick (8 pixel) black outline around your letters. Turn the outlines off.
Second, you have faux bold turned on. (It's at the bottom of the character pallette, right next to the faux italic button. I would never suggest using faux bold or faux italic; find a font that has bold and italic versions.

Thanks!

I think I tripped over the Line Width without realizing it!
