I have about 4500$ for a new iMac.
I'm a professionel filmeditor(FCP/AVID) and also doing some compositing in AE and planning working with 3DMAX and Cinema4D as well.
I have come up with the following setup based on research.
iMac i7 3.4GHz
16GB ram
1GB ATA + 1GB Lacie Little Big Disc (Thunderbolt)
1GB GFX card
Is this the absolute ideal setup for my type of work ?
Have a nice weekend :)

[Soren Clemmensen] "1GB ATA + 1GB Lacie Little Big Disc"
Do you mean "TB" instead of "GB"?

Good. You'll need that storage, especially for HD work, 2-4K RED files, etc. You'll probably want more storage in time.
I don't know if there is such a thing as an "absolute ideal setup", but yours sounds like it would work well for some time.
