I am new to After Effects and am teaching myself. I have a still image that I have added a camera layer to. I want to add text but when I do the text moves with the camera. How do I keep the text stationary whilst the camera moves around the image???

PLEASE HELP, I'm on a time limit!!

I'm not familiar with after effects but I think you need to move the text to a layer above the camera.

Have you added 3d text presets or have you enabled the 3D box for the text? If you have done either you will need to precompose the text layer, so the camera doesn't affect it.

If you don't want a text layer in your composition to react to the camera movement just make it a 2D layer. You can mix 2D and 3D in the same comp (a blessing and curse all in one feature!) If it is a 3D layer in the same comp as a camera, then it will react to the camera. Switch off the 3D button and use position and scale to place your layer in the comp.

Hope this helps.

Another option is to Parent the Text Layer to the Camera.

Lots of options as you can see. Learning AE on your own is great but you should find a site or classroom where the lessons are structured.

Good Luck
